R2-Rick - Recording - Pulse - Stay-Tonight - Hot-Streak - 2014
It's back to the studio for me and this time round I was @ Pulse Record Studio @ Subang Jaya together with the awesome producer himself 'Madan' !!!. Manage to lay down some vocal tracks for my 2 new singles. All together I would say the Pulse Studio has a very relax environment that comes with a full range of audio visual and recording equipment. Well suited for live acoustic arrangements plus you can be assured that you have an expert in house Producer to make your music sound even better!!! I rate Pulse Studio a good 9/10 for being awesome.

It's almost been 10 months to a year since I began this incredible journey of making music professionally and in such short while, I have realize that making music in this day and age isn't the same like it was back in the day. I realized that because the Digital Online presence being so strong that we really do not need to be attached to any label per say unless if that label is willing to up front you an "Advance" for your already self produced work exchange that you pass them some of your future "Royalties" made in sales or performances. So you can live your Rock & Roll live!!
Lets face it, any body today can make his / hers own music. You just need to have the drive and willingness to learn and explore to avenues in doing so. I did just that and mind you, I was just a normal average person who was previously working in the local advertising industry until the music bug bit me on my butt!!
But in saying this, there must be a fair amount of discipline involved and sacrifices have to be made. I actually had to give up my day job and go into music full-time. For me, there was no other way cause I needed to do a crash course in the shortest amount of time!!!
When you've got all your basics covered, you'll realize that you can utilized the current online media channels, blogs, forums, groups and so on to help promote your music therefore ; again eliminating to a certain degree the need to engage in expensive media publicist or campaign managers.
So when you do come out with a hit music single, you will see an influx of records executives knocking on your door but be vary cause most of them could just be giving you the same old deal and promising you promotional options that you have been doing all this while on your own and while at it they will take away as much as 80% - 90% of your revenue.
Now, most of them will not even bother giving you any advance payments as they are not bothered about your own survival but in the "Winning Track" which you have and which they need to make money off you!! So all your hard work and previously done commitments are now not important and because of their sweet mouth and very convincing tactics, you are taken into their sweet deal being offered by signing over your entire creativity. By the time you realize your mistake, it would be almost another year or so gone by and you are still at the same place where you originally started!!! Now that sucks!!!
I find this sort of attitude more apparent in the independent and smaller record labels as they are the ones who are cash strapped but with more "Convincing" power and with sheer enthusiasm to excite and entice unsuspecting new and upcoming musicians.
So be careful and pick wisely cause you might live to regret it !!
It sad but this was not always the issue in the past where record labels genuinely had a budget to use in cash advancements for managing their artistes in terms of their lively hood and monthly expenses. It's just that these companies are more dormant these days and are selective in choosing and grooming their valuable stable of artistes.
Bottom line is, I'm going through this now after I just released my latest single - "Stay Tonight" which was less then a day ago.
Suddenly , I have had a couple of interested independent labels looking me up and making sweet enticing offers but so far, none can offer me what I'm actually looking for in terms of longevity and profitability.
I'm a realist and I'm not that greedy. So if these A&R boys are willing to cough out an "Advance" of maybe 30K to 40K, to cover all my previous year long backlog expenses then you might just have yourself a deal!!!
So till that happens, I am treading carefully and in the mean time I have taken the liberty in setting up my own sales network and promotions team to see how far my new music can go on my own :)
So stay tune for more :)
Peace
